Thank you!

On Sunday 4th December Team Clan Gordon braved the cold and ran the Edinburgh Christmas 10k in Inverleith Park to raise money for Fresh Start, a fantastic local charity supporting previously homeless households across Edinburgh.

We chose to support Fresh Start’s Cookers for Christmas appeal – providing and installing refurbished cookers for those who could not otherwise afford one – because we believe that everyone should be able to cook a hot meal in their own home. When someone who has previously been homeless moves into their first home they often have no possessions at all, and a cooker can be both low on the list of priorities and out of reach financially.

Thanks to our generous clients, contractors, friends and family, we surpassed our £1,500 target and raised over £2,100 (including gift aid). This money will allow Fresh Start to provide and install 14 cookers in their clients’ homes before Christmas, meaning that 14 Edinburgh residents will be able to cook Christmas dinner in their own home for the first time this year.

In December 2015 Fresh Start provided 18 cookers across Edinburgh, so the money raised will go a long way in supporting their 2016 appeal.

Starter Packs

In addition to the money raised by our generous sponsors, Clan Gordon wanted to provide a Christmas gift for the recipients of each of the cookers. We went shopping and bought items to create 14 complete kitchen starter packs, enabling Fresh Start clients to start cooking hot meals at home right away. Following Fresh Start’s guidance, our starter packs contained:

  •          Crockery
  •          Cutlery
  •          Glasses
  •          Mugs
  •          Pots and pans
  •          Frying pan
  •          Dish towels
  •          Kitchen utensils
  •          Chopping board

This year alone, Fresh Start have provided over 10,500 starter packs to Edinburgh residents who are most in need. Fresh Start rely on donations to create starter packs, you can read more about the starter packs and find out how you can donate, in our previous blog post
