Clan Gordon Sponsors the Doddie Foundation’s Grand Tour
Supporting the Fight Against MND
At Clan Gordon, we’re proud to support causes that make a real difference, and this year, we’re thrilled to announce our sponsorship of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’s incredible cycling challenge, Doddie’5 Grand Tour. This inspiring event brings together teams of dedicated cyclists to raise funds for motor neurone disease (MND) research, helping to move us closer to a world free of this devastating disease.
Doddie’5 Grand Tour – About The Challenge
The Doddie’5 Grand Tour is no ordinary ride. Starting in Dublin on 3rd February 2025, the team will cycle an extraordinary 780 miles over six days, facing the harsh Scottish winter as they traverse stunning (but challenging) routes through Kelso, Peebles, Stirling, Aberdeen, and Dundee. They’ll even conquer Glenshee’s notorious climb before finishing in Edinburgh, just in time for the Scotland vs. Ireland Six Nations match on 9th February.
This gruelling endurance challenge will raise funds and awareness for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, named after the legendary rugby player Doddie Weir OBE, who tragically passed away in 2022 after a brave battle with MND.
Why We’re Supporting This Cause
As a business rooted in Edinburgh in the heart of Scotland, we’re committed to giving back to the communities we serve. Supporting the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation aligns perfectly with our values, as we aim to help raise vital funds for MND research and honour Doddie Weir’s enduring legacy.
Our Founder/Director, Jonathan Gordon, will also be a support driver for the cycling teams we are sponsoring, including Team Lockett Bros, who are leading the charge for this year’s Grand Tour. We are proud to join forces with other sponsors like Howden Insurance, who are also backing this inspiring event.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerves that control movement, leading to muscle weakness and, eventually, loss of mobility, speech, and even the ability to breathe. It is a devastating diagnosis with no known cure. However, the research funded by the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation brings hope to those living with MND and their families.
Doddie Weir, the Scottish rugby legend and founder of the charity, was diagnosed with MND in 2016. Despite his diagnosis, Doddie became a beacon of strength and determination, dedicating his time to raising funds for research and supporting others with MND. His inspiring work has left an incredible legacy that continues to drive the Foundation’s mission: to one day find a cure for this cruel disease.
