I didn’t seek Clan Gordon out, I was looking for somewhere to rent in Edinburgh and their name came up as a recommendation. We ended up renting with them and they were brilliant from start to finish.

Traditionally, you go into a relationship with a letting agent perhaps expecting some kind of friction but there was absolutely none of that at any stage. We got our full deposit back upon leaving, there were no issues with the inventory, they made sure it was all plain sailing.

I didn’t really have any issues which required their help during the time we were tenants which was obviously great but whenever we did need them they were always there.

When we did have a request Clan Gordon responded really quickly and dealt with it within 24 hours. You don’t get that level of service with every agent, quite often they argue and want you to justify what’s wrong because they don’t want to spend the money.

We then got to the point where we bought a flat and wanted to rent it out. I’d had such a good relationship with Clan Gordon, it was a no-brainer to ask them to help. They had so many good ideas and tips and they were always there to bounce ideas off.

They made sure the flat was on all the right channels – Zoopla, Rightmove etc – and we got ten viewings in a week. Five offers went in, two of which were willing to pay more than the price we were asking!

‘The tenant interview process was very thorough’

We actually went for a university professor who wasn’t offering more than the going rate, we just liked him. Clan Gordon found him and got lots of good information about him, their interview process was very thorough. He had a pet and I love cats and dogs so was very happy to agree to that as very few landlords accept pets. Clan Gordon brokered a deal for a pet deposit so if there was any damage we could take it out of that but it never came to that. But that’s the level of expertise you can expect from them, they’re just very good at that type of detail.

I remember when the tenant wanted to move his fiancé in and we needed to change the lease for her visa. The fees Clan Gordon charged for getting that done were so reasonable, they were just so good through that process, which could have been difficult.

‘Every time I asked a question they responded’

In terms of fees, they’re almost too cheap. Getting the flat up to spec in terms of electrical safety tests and fire safety was incredibly reasonable and they were so responsive – every time I asked them a question they got back straightaway.

My relationship with them is let-only, we don’t have ongoing management with them. I only live round the corner, but if I was moving away, I wouldn’t hesitate to put them in charge. I’m a chartered surveyor so I know a little bit about the property game and Clan Gordon aren’t like most letting agents, they actually really care.

Clan Gordon deal with everything with such expertise and are so responsive and pleasant to deal with – I don’t know why anyone would go with another letting agent.
